Family Name

You must enter the Family Name exactly as it is shown on the title page of your passport.

Even if you have changed your name since the issue of your passport, you must enter the details as shown in the passport.

You may use the letters A to Z, hyphen (-), apostrophe (') and space.

Please do not include titles (eg. Dr, Col, Mr, Ms, Mrs, Miss) or qualifiers (eg. Snr, Jnr, Esq, PhD, 3rd) as part of your name.

The Family Name is usually the name that you would pass on to all of your children. It is also called a Surname in some passports. At present, only the standard Roman characters used by the English alphabet are accepted by the Internet ETA System. Japanese, Arabic, Thai, Chinese, Greek and other non-Roman character sets are not accepted.
Please make certain your computer is set up to accommodate this.
Similarly, modified Roman characters (such as the German Umlaut) are not accepted. If you usually translate a character like 'ß' to 'ss', you may enter this translation into the system.

correct Right wrong Wrong
correct Chantrasaeng wrong Dr Brown, PhD (titles)
correct Schloesser wrong ÆÇØ(non-Roman)
